Sigyn
Sigyn is a figure of loyalty and resilience in Norse mythology, known as the devoted wife of Loki, the trickster god. Sigyn’s role is most prominently illustrated in the story of Loki’s punishment. After Loki’s involvement in the death of Baldr, he is captured by the gods and bound beneath a venomous serpent as punishment. Sigyn’s enduring love and loyalty are evident as she holds a bowl over her husband’s head to catch the venom, preventing it from dripping directly onto him. When the bowl fills and she has to empty it, the venom drips on Loki, causing him excruciating pain, which is said to be the source of earthquakes in Norse mythology. Sigyn’s unwavering support of Loki, even in his darkest moments, highlights her as a symbol of loyalty and endurance.
